HEALTH & WELLNESS
2.5 billion people lack access to improved sanitation.
As a result, preventable diseases such as ebola, viruses and pneumonia
continue to take lives.
Where Science Can Help
Science is developing solutions for healthier foods, effective medicines, more active lifestyles and improved hygiene. These solutions include:
- Ingredients that can help improve the health profile of food
- Pharma solutions that help treat the population’s evolving needs
- Water treatment technologies and ingredients for soaps that help address the inadequate availability of hygiene and unsafe drinking water
- Technologies that help support an active lifestyle
Dow's Solutions At Work
Dow products and technologies are addressing the challenge.
University of Texas-Austin & University of Minnesota

Jaipur Foot Initiative
A collaboration with Bhagwan Mahaveer Vilang Sahyata Samiti (BMVSS) that applies Dow's science and technology expertise to develop polyurethane limbs, offering a prosthetic limb that is 20 percent lighter, considerably quicker to make and 25 percent cheaper to produce than handmade vulcanized rubber.
Dow Sustainability Corps Leadership In Action Program
Five employees from Dow and three from IBM participated in a joint global pro bono project with International Medical Corps (IMC) that will promote and support a campaign to improve sanitation and hygiene behavior in the community of Wolayita in Ethiopia.
Central American Medical Organization (CAMO)
The Central American Medical Organization (CAMO) is a nonprofit organization in Honduras that provides medical services, health screenings, and education. Safe Water Network
Dow teamed up with Safe Water Network, a nonprofit that sets up water filtering stations around the world, to help them better track the flow of water in Ghana.
