COMMERCIAL SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Commercial Summer Internship Program (SIP) is designed to give participants awareness of the sales, marketing, customer service, and technical service functions at Dow. They will acquire knowledge of various roles, responsibilities, and capabilities along with an understanding of concepts, techniques, and tools that drive sales effectiveness.

The SIP is a 12-week program at the Dow Corporate Center in Midland, MI that combines practical learning with on-the-job assignments to familiarize participants with the various technologies, people, and processes that drive the inner workings of the Commercial Organization. Participants will collaborate and work on project(s) that have direct applicability to Dow’s growth strategy and continued future success. The program helps participants develop competencies such as business acumen, interpersonal skills, time and project management, and drive for results, as well as broaden their business insight and perspective.

Participants will have access to resources in order to perform to expectations and standards. They will be expected to work independently, as well as in a team environment, for maximum productivity. Throughout the 12 weeks, participants will be given coaching and feedback to learn, grow and develop expertise. At the conclusion of the program, participants will create an Executive Summary and make a presentation of their work to their respective Business Sponsors. This program can be a tremendous opportunity in a college student’s learning journey!

MARKETING SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

As a Marketing Leadership Development Program (MLDP) intern, you will be assigned to an 11-13 week project focused on achieving value growth through strategic opportunity assessment or market development. You will be an integral member of a Dow business, and the autonomous project lead. In this role, you will be accountable for project results while working closely with others on the team, many of whom will be in different functions and locations

A MLDP internship at Dow is a great growth experience for a first year MBA student. Leading an impactful business project to a final recommendation enables you to apply and further develop your marketing analysis and leadership skills, as well as your persuasion skills. Training and support resources will be readily available to support your success.

As an MLDP intern, you will also have the unique opportunity to meet with members of Dow’s executive leadership team. Dow leaders are driven to share the vision and strategy of our company and are committed to recruiting and retaining exceptional, motivated talent. Multiple networking events are scheduled throughout the summer, some of which are off campus and family-friendly.

Project Areas

MLDP intern projects typically focus on one or more of these activities:

  • Deliver a market/industry analysis utilizing tools such as Porter Analysis SWOT Analysis, and Value Chain Analysis
  • Collect and assess competitor information and customer feedback via VOC work
  • Recommend growth opportunities in new markets or industries
  • Develop a new business concept and shape a hypothesis to create value
  • Create value models to support creation of a new product/service offering
  • Participate in the implementation of a new business concept or product/service offering

Successful MLDP interns will be considered for full time positions in Dow’s marketing organization, within a Dow business. Full time roles are in strategic marketing and market management. Additional career options include product management, commercial leadership, and business leadership.

Qualifications

  • First year full time MBA student
  • Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 scale)
  • Diverse educational backgrounds are welcome with a preference for business, engineering or science undergraduate
  • 2-4 years of commercial or technical work experience
  • Interest in a strategic marketing or marketing management role short term, product director or marketing director intermediate term

A minimum requirement for this US-based intern position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis. Applicants who do not indicate that they have the necessary work authorization will not be considered.

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

New college graduates selected for the Commercial Development Program (CDP) at Dow will participate in a training program designed to develop its participants into world-class sales professionals through simulation, observational, and project-based learning. The CDP prepares its participants for a career in account management by teaching the skills and tools necessary to thrive in a competitive sales environment.

Sales professionals at Dow grow existing customer relationships and implement strategies to forge new customer relationships. They work closely with customers to better understand their business goals, application requirements and manufacturing environments. Sales professionals match Dow's many and varied solutions to our customers' needs to create value for both our customers and for Dow.

Upon completion of the program, participants are often placed as the lead territory, channel, industry, or direct account manager. Account managers work in a business-to-business (B2B) sales environment and own account relationships as the face of Dow. Customer contact occurs at all levels within the customer organizations - executive decision makers, application development, manufacturing, marketing and purchasing.

Duration of Program

Timing for the program varies by region. For North America, participants undergo six months training beginning mid-June and ending early December. Upon completion of the program, participants are often placed as the lead territory, channel, industry, or direct account manager. Account managers work in a business-to-business (B2B) sales environment and own account relationships as the face of Dow. Customer contact occurs at all levels within the customer organizations - executive decision makers, application development, manufacturing, marketing and purchasing.

The CDP is a regionally based, global program conducted in four locations around the world including:
